Animation of new traffic pattern at Highways 78 and 124

We just noticed Mayor Pro Tem Dave Emanuel’s post on Facebook and have reproduced it below. It sums up the new traffic patterns at the intersection and also includes a link to the animation video that was done by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

A reminder- tonight (7/30) at 11:00 the Georgia Department of Transportation will switch to the new traffic pattern at 78 and 124 and the “Displaced Left Turn” will go live. At that point, the intersections becomes a diverging diamond (like Pleasant Hill and I85) with cross traffic. This configuration will improve traffic flow because.vehicles traveling through the intersection on Highway 78 will no longer have to wait for left turning vehicles to complete their travel. Another change is that neither left nor right turns will be permitted on to Highway when traveling north on 124 (from the Centerville area towards Lawrenceville). Northbound 124 traffic will turn left or right onto Henry Clower Blvd, and then onto Highway 78 at the Henry Clower/Highway 78 intersection.

We also learned that Mayor Barbara Bender, Mayor Pro Tem Dave Emanuel and other council members will be at the Snellville Farmer’s Market on Saturday August 3 to answer questions about the intersection and other city-related topics.
