SNAP Meeting- Solicitation Questions Answered

downloadThere was a very informative meeting this evening explaining in detail the new Solicitation Ordinance for the city. This ordinance was worked on for almost a year to work out all the details. The ordinance’s main purpose is to protect us, the homeowners, and any children going door to door. The main highlights are as follows:

1. If you have a “NO TRESPASSING – NO SOLICITATION” sign posted visibly in your driveway or entryway, no solicitation of any kind is allowed.

2. All solicitors must have a permit issued by the City of Snellville. Permits from the county, state or elsewhere are not valid in Snellville. The solicitor will have a name card with photo pinned or hung on a lanyard around his/her neck.

3. No permits are needed for non-profit groups, political campaigners, religious groups or children’s groups such as scouts, school fundraisers, etc. But they are still not allowed if you have your NO TRESPASSING sign up. All children under 17 must be under the direct supervision of a supervisor and have paperwork showing so.

4. The solicitors must go through a background check, which they pay for, in order to get a permit. Detailed information must also be provided. If they do not pass the background check, they will not get the permit.

5. Solicitors must come to your front door only, not to a rear door, carport door, etc.

6. The hours allowed for solicitation are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM only, except during Daylight Savings Time, when the permissible hours are from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Many, many thanks to Council Members Diane Krause and Dave Emanuel, Police Chief Roy Whitehead, Captain Greg Perry and Linda Nixon, Criminal Investigation Division Administration Officer, all of the Snellville Police Department, Erica Fleeman, the city’s IT Specialist, and former city attorney Tony Powell for putting together this protective ordinance for our city.

Remember, it is your option if you want this ordinance enforced on your property.
